Students Standing at Kindness Door

Dear Parents and Community Members,

North Marion is a vibrant and exciting place to live and learn! Our schools are focused on the district’s mission to empower students to be their personal best and to lead productive lives as stewards of their world. It is important that you are informed about our school’s progress as identified on the 2016-2017 Oregon Department of Education Report Card for 6th-8th grades. The annual report card offers a comprehensive picture of how North Marion Middle School performed as a school. We take pride in our students’ attendance rates and are pleased that North Marion Middle School has been identified as a Level 4 school because of our academic growth. Furthermore, our academic achievement indicator remains strong at a Level 3. Our English Language Arts students, who were previously at a Level 2, gained an impressive 4.2% in academic growth. While we celebrate our strengths, we also recognize and embrace the challenges before us. As we merge into the 2017-2018 school year we are committed to the following:

1. Concentrate on improving individual growth for each and every student in the areas of Mathematics, English Language Arts, and Science.

2. Continue to implement new curriculum in Mathematics and Science classes.

3. Use professional learning time to clearly articulate high-leverage strategies that challenge all students to think critically and comprehend deeply.

4. Openly and honestly examine our data on a regular basis and provide feedback to students and parents regarding progress.

5. Use technology in Math classes to provide individualized, learning programs for students reinforcing personal goal setting and achievement.

6. Implement a comprehensive Teacher Mentor Program for new teachers to provide support.

We know that we cannot be our best alone. Your support, as families and community members is instrumental to our success. You can motivate and support your student as a learner by helping us with the following:

1. Regularly access the Parent Portal to monitor your learner’s success on daily learning activities, homework, and assessment progress.

2. Ensure that your student is reading regularly.

3. Communicate with teachers to discuss concerns and needs.

4. Participate in school events and community forums.

5. Visit our school website to remain current on school initiatives, assessments and activities.

We are partners in the process of educating our children and want you to feel welcome and included in our school community. With your support, we can continue to provide a well-rounded education to the students at North Marion Middle School.

We look forward to the coming year and are excited to celebrate your students’ successes.

Thank you,

Principal | Tami Badinger
